December 10 – Wisdom. What was the wisest decision you made this year, and how did it play out?

——————————————————————————————-

The wisest decision I made this year was to take my job at UK. But I’ll bet you knew I was going to say that.

You probably also know by now how blessed I feel to have had those years as a stay at home Mom. That was the wisest decision I have made in my entire life.

But this year I was ready to go back to work again. Freelancing is great (because you can do it in your pajamas), but I was tired of the unpredictable income. I had several potential opportunities arise, mostly part-time, that I was considering. So when my friend Jeff called to tell me about a position at UK I should apply for, I was really on the fence. Wow, a full-time job; Did I really want to jump right in feet first?

After the interview I almost hoped they would not offer me the job. I thought that would be a sign from God that I should stay home and nothing would change. I did not want to get out of my comfort zone (or my pajamas). Thankfully, when the call came in from UK, I made the wise decision to accept.

It was not the part-time gig I had hoped for; It was not even as much money as I had envisioned. But this job has turned out to be a better opportunity than I could have ever dreamed.

I don’t want to make it sound all gum-drops and lollipops. Of course there are times when I’d rather be at home, or when I feel stretched for time. But overall, I like working way better than I thought I would. For one thing, I have more time to myself now than ever. (I am counting driving in the car alone as “me” time. Also, having a “lunch break,” which I still feel incredibly guilty about). And, I hate to admit this, the best part about working is getting home after the kids have finished their homework.  (Another wise decision on my part: Not becoming a school teacher. How do teachers do that all day?!)

And you know what else? Working at UK means I can go back to school and get another degree–for FREE. Which means, in addition to making a wise decision, I’ll also be smarter.
